Data Analysis Reveals Impossible Sydney Marathon Result

Data analysis reveals suspicious splits in the Sydney Marathon and irregular results across other major races.

The World Marathon Majors

Eravanan has participated in the Abbott World Marathon Majors, completing races in Boston, New York City, Chicago, Berlin, London, and Tokyo. This series of six races represents the pinnacle of marathon running, and finishing all six is recognized with the Six Star Medal.

In addition, he traveled to Sydney, which was added in the Majors expansion program. After completing that race, he posted that Sydney represented his “7th star.”

The World Marathon Challenge (2019)

In 2019, Eravanan participated in the World Marathon Challenge — 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days. Starting in Antarctica and continuing through South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and finishing in Australia, it is considered one of the most extreme running challenges in the world.

He is listed among the 2019 participants on the official site, with finish times recorded for each continent. He also posted photos of the seven medals earned for completing the event.

Sydney Marathon 2025

Shortly after the race, I pulled the splits for every runner. I plugged the results into my analyzer tool and Eravanan was the first runner on my list to review. It’s not difficult to see why.

Here are his official splits from Sydney:

It is clear that Eravanan cut at least two major sections of the course. Both of the impossible fast segments correspond with the highlighted portions of the course map — the out-and-back after the 25km mark and the loop through Centennial Park. The 20k split was also run at a faster paste than the others and includes a small out and back section but his pace there is possible.

Sydney organizers later updated the results: Eravanan is now listed as DNF (Did Not Finish).

After seeing that he was chasing stars, I looked at some other results, his 2025 races in particular came under suspicion after just a bit of scrutiny.

Vienna City Marathon 2025

The 30 km split of 4:44 (0:57/km pace) is faster than world record middle-distance running. No marathoner in history has run at that speed mid-race.

Despite this, Eravanan is still listed as an official finisher in Vienna.

Prague Marathon 2025

The 35 km split (4:46/km, 7:40/mile) and the 40 km split (3:35/km, 5:46/mile) are completely inconsistent with his earlier paces.

And yet, Prague still lists him as an official finisher.

Rotterdam Marathon 2025 – Not in Results

Eravanan posted a medal from Rotterdam. However, he is not listed in the official results.

Disney Races 2025 – Dopey Challenge Claim

In 2025, Eravanan also posted medals from all of the Disney races, including the Dopey Challenge medal (earned by completing a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon across four consecutive days).

But he is absent from the official results for both the Disney Half Marathon and Marathon.

Conclusion

Eravanan wasn’t the only runner to cut the course at Sydney. He was the most prolific, and the only one (so far) that I have seen boasting his accomplishments on social media. To their credit, The Sydney Marathon has removed all of the most egregious instances from the official results.

He finished the last of the initial 6 World Marathon Majors in 2019 (Boston). It appears that he ran all of these races legitimately.

I checked some of his other races, and they all looked good.

But in 2025, his results raise serious concerns:

  • DNF in Sydney
  • Impossible splits in Vienna and Prague
  • Absent from Rotterdam and Disney official results

The medals and photos tell one story. The official records tell another.

I have reached out to Eravanan for comment, but he has not replied.
